History

Peeze has managed to safeguard its identity for over 130 years. A pure company, that produces nothing but coffee of the very highest quality. Peeze charts its own course, with quality and sustainability as its guiding lights.

Quality mindset
The history of Peeze Coffee Roastery began in 1879 in a small village near Hengelo, where two brothers from the Peeze family ran a horse exchange with a tavern and store. One of the brothers, Gerrit, started roasting coffee for the local farmers. Working with his son Willem, he went on to establish a grocery store and coffee roastery in the city. After the death of his father in 1908, Gerrit Peeze junior took over the business. He made sure that the quality mindset became an integral part of the entire organisation.

Real Italian coffee
After the war, the Peeze coffee roastery relocated to Arnhem. In the 1950s, Peeze was the first coffee roastery to sell espresso beans on the Dutch market, and supplied the first espresso bar in the Netherlands, Gomperts and Steinmetz with real, Italian coffee.

Quality and sustainability
In addition to a keen eye for quality, Peeze was also early to recognise the importance of preserving the world around us. Peeze is known for pioneering and leading the way when it comes to corporate social responsibility and technological innovations. The company's relocation to the outskirts of Arnhem in the early 1990's represented a conscious choice for sustainable and honest entrepreneurship.
The roastery in Arnhem is one of the most modern and environmentally-friendly coffee roasteries in the world. Energy conservation, CO2 emission compensation and the purchase of sustainable coffee plays an important role at Peeze. Quality and sustainability are key aspects throughout the entire organisation.

Authentic recipe
The Peeze Coffee Roastery exclusively uses the very best Arabica coffee. The various types of coffee beans are all roasted separately (single origin) and are being mixed after the roasting process has finished. Our espresso is also double roasted according to the authentic Italian procedure (doppio tostato). The result is an excellent cup of Peeze coffee.

The past few years have seen Peeze transform into a modern, market-oriented company. With a renewed product range, modern packaging and a wealth of other innovations, Peeze is competing in the highest regions of the coffee market, both nationally and internationally. In 2007, Peeze traditionally a family-owned company – took on a new management. Managing directors Timmo Terpstra and Paul van der Hulst are dedicated to safeguarding the continued existence and identity of this very special Arnhem-based company.
